Georg Neumark

NEUMARK, Georg. b. Langensalza,Thuringia,16 Mar 1621; d. Weimar, 8 July 1681. His father Michael worked as a clothmaker. His mother Martha was a daughter of the well-known princely official Salomon Plathner. In 1624 the family moved to the free imperial city of Mühlhausen (Thuringia), where Neumark received his early education. From 1632 to 1636 he attended the Hennebergisches Gymnasium in Schleusingen, presumably followed by the Latin School in Osterode (Harz) from 1636 to 1640. In 1641 he attended the academic Gymnasium (‘Gymnasium Illustre’) in Gotha, which at that time was under the direction of Andreas Reyher, an educational reformer.
