Michael Forster
FORSTER, Michael Lindsay. b. 1946; d. 23 April 2023. He grew up in an Anglican family, but became a member of the Baptist Church. After studying and practising as a musician, he studied for the ministry at Regent’s Park College, Oxford (1986-89). He later left the Baptist Church for the United Reformed Church. He was a Community Health chaplain in Leicester. His first attempt at writing for worship was a version of the Gloria in excelsis*, ‘Glory to God in highest heav’n’. He has subsequently become a prolific hymn writer, with a particular interest in providing hymns for the Lectionary and for all-age worship. He was encouraged by Kevin Mayhew*.
