Wilhelm Andreas Wexels
WEXELS, Wilhelm Andreas. b. Copenhagen, 29 March 1797; d. Christiania, 14 May 1866. He was educated at the Metropolitan School, Copenhagen, and the University of Christiania (then in Denmark; now Oslo, Norway). After theological studies, he was appointed catechist at Vår Frelsens Kirke (Our Saviour’s Church), Christiania (1818), becoming residing curate in 1846; he was also appointed preacher to the University of Christiania. He remained at Christiania for the rest of his life, declining the bishopric of Bergen.
Wexels published a commentary on the New Testament, Forklaring over det Nye Testamentes Skrifter (1837-54), and sermons, both individually and as Tredive Praedikener (1855). He...
