Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness.  Knowles Shaw* (1834-1878). This appeared anonymously in Shaw’s The Golden Gate: a collection of new songs, for the Sunday School, prayer meeting, and social circle  (Cincinnati, 1874), and with his name in The Morning Star, a collection of new sacred songs for the Sunday School, prayer meeting, and the social circle (Cincinnati, 1877). It was dedicated to the memory of the musician and preacher, Augustus Damon Fillmore (1823 -1870), a member of the Church of Christ to which Shaw belonged (see ‘Disciples of Christ hymnody’*).
