Lo! He comes with clouds descending. Charles Wesley* (1707-1788).
First published in Hymns of Intercession for all Mankind (1758) in four 6-line stanzas, one of five hymns entitled ‘Thy Kingdom come’. It was not included in John Wesley*’s A Collection of Hymns for the Use of the People called Methodists (1780), but it appeared in the 1831 edition with Supplement, and it has been included in all subsequent Methodist hymn-books and in many other collections. It is one of the most widely used hymns in the English-speaking world on the Second Coming of Christ:
