Donna Adkins
ADKINS, Donna (née Whobrey). b. Louisville, Kentucky, 18 June 1940. Born into a family of traveling gospel singers, Donna Whobrey began singing in public at the age of two and by the age of twelve was playing piano for the family quartet. She was educated at Asbury College, Wilmore, Kentucky (1959-60), and the University of Louisville (1961). She married James Adkins, who served as Pastor of Administration at the Covenant Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Donna served for some years on the office and music staff. Her simple hymn, ‘Father, we love you’* (‘Glorify Thy Name’), has appeared in various modern hymnals.
