Charles Zeuner

ZEUNER, Charles (Heinrich Christoph). b. Eisleben, Germany, 20 September 1795; d. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 7 November 1857. Zeuner, composer, organist and pianist, studied in Weimar with Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) and in Erfurt with Michael Gotthard Fischer (1773-1829) before emigrating to Boston, Massachusetts by 1830, when he made his debut at Boylston Hall on 13 February. This event, sponsored by the Handel and Haydn Society, led to his appointment as organist for the Society in September 1830. He served several churches in Boston between 1830 and 1839.
