Stupendous height of heavenly love

Stupendous height of heavenly love. Charles Wesley* (1707-1788). Not published during the author’s lifetime, this hymn comes from a manuscript in Wesley’s hand, containing 800 poems based on the Gospel according to Saint Luke. It consisted of four 6-line stanzas and was inspired by Luke 1: 78, ‘Through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us.’ It was included in the 1831 Supplement to A Collection of Hymns for the Use of the People called Methodists (1780), with the title ‘Christ the Light of the World’: Stupendous height of heavenly love,  Of pitying tenderness Divine!It brought the Saviour from above,  It caused the Springing Day to shine,The Sun...
