Sarah Williams
WILLIAMS, Sarah. b. ca. 1838, date not known; d. 25 April 1868.
What little is known about Sarah Williams’s life is found in a Memoir by Edward Hayes Plumptre* (she was an old student of his) printed as an introduction to a volume entitled Twilight Hours (1868). This was sub-titled ‘a Legacy of Verse’, which suggests that the poems in it were compiled shortly before Williams’s death or soon after it, either by the author herself or by Plumptre, giving generously of his time and expertise. The whole book bears out the ODNB’s description of Plumptre as one who ‘proved a most sympathetic teacher, and took a genuine interest in the future welfare of his pupils.’ Indeed it is quite possible...
