Lord of the harvest, it is right and meet. Samuel John Stone* (1839-1900).
Written for the Second Day of Intercession for Foreign Missions in 1871 (cf. ‘Through midnight gloom from Macedon’*). It was published in Stone’s The Knight of Intercession (1872), with twelve two-line stanzas and a refrain. It was entitled ‘The Same’ [i.e. ‘Hymns for the Day of Intercession’], ‘III. Hymn of Thanksgiving’. It was preceded by a quotation from Psalm 72: ‘“Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only doeth wondrous things; and blessed be His glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and amen.” - Ps. LXXII. 18-19.’
