Lord of all power and might
Lord of all power and might. Hugh Stowell* (1799-1865).
According to JJ, p. 1097) this was written for the Jubilee of the British and Foreign Bible Society, 7 March 1853, and published after his death in Hymns, by the late Rev. Canon Stowell, M.A. (Manchester, 1868). It was subsequently published in the enlarged edition of Stowell’s A Selection of Psalms & Hymns Suited to the Services of the Church of England (Manchester, 1877), edited by his son, Thomas Alfred Stowell (1831-1916). It had four stanzas:
Lord of all power and might,Father of love and light, Speed on Thy word!Oh, let the Gospel-soundAll the wide world around,Wherever man is found: God speed His word!
