Lord, save thy world; in bitter need. Albert Frederick Bayly* (1901-1984).
Written in 1947 and entitled ‘The World's Need’. This hymn combines a compassionate and active concern for the world with a deep trust in the love and power of God. The hymn was published in Rejoice O People (1950) and gained wider recognition when it appeared in 100HfT (1969) and thus in A&MNS (1983). HP, the only other major book to use the hymn, alters stanza 5 line 4 from ‘When all men find their liberty’ to ‘When all will find thy liberty’. A revised version was printed in Bayly’s Rejoice Together (1982).
