Lord, dismiss us with Thy blessing (Hawker). Robert Hawker* (1753-1827).
According to Sabine Baring-Gould (1876, pp. 3-4), Robert Hawker wrote a version of this hymn which was used to close Evening Prayer at Charles Church, Plymouth, where Hawker was the incumbent from 1784 to 1827. It was published in Hawker’s Psalms and Hymns Sung by the Children of the Sunday School, in the Parish Church of Charles, Plymouth, at the Sabbath Evening Lecture (1794, Thirteenth Edition, 1807). Baring-Gould’s text is as follows:
Lord, dismiss us with Thy blessing;
Fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each Thy love possessing,
Triumph in redeeming grace.
Oh, refresh us,
Travelling...
