Lord, as I wake I turn to you
Lord, as I wake I turn to you. (William) Brian Foley* (1919-2000).
This hymn, based in part on Psalm 5, is one of 14 by Foley in the New Catholic Hymnal (1971). While being firm in verse 2 about those who will not praise or pray, it avoids the anger of the psalm against the enemies of the believer. It has appeared in NEH, HfTC, RS, and other books. The first line suggests the ritual of prayer at first awakening, in the monastic tradition.
