John Atkinson
Atkinson, John. b. Deerfield, New Jersey, 6 December 1835; d. Haverstraw, New York, 8 December 1897. He was a Methodist Episcopal Church minister, serving congregations in Newark and Jersey City; Chicago, Illinois; Bay City, Michigan; and Haverstraw, New York, where he died two days after his sixty-second birthday. He was a considerable writer: his last book was published in the year before his death. His books (with one exception) were concerned with the practise of Methodism and its history: they included Memorials of Methodism in New Jersey (Philadelphia, 1860), Garden of Sorrows (probably sermons, New York and Cincinnati, 1868), Class Leader: his work and how to do it (New York, 1874),...
