Gelobt sei Gott im höchsten Thron. Michael Weisse* (ca. 1480-1534). Printed in Ein new Geseng buchlen (Jungbunzlau, Bohemia, 1531), this hymn is based on Matthew 28: 1-6. It was given the title ‘Surrexit Christus hodie’ (Wackernagel, Das Deutsche Kirchenlied III. 265-6), indicating its origins in the tradition of Latin celebrations of the Resurrection. It had twenty 3-line stanzas, of which six are found in EG.
