Word of God, come down on earth
Word of God, come down on earth. James Quinn* (1919-2010).
This comes from Quinn’s New Hymns for All Seasons (1969). It was also included in his later book, Praise for All Seasons (1994). It had four 6-line stanzas, rhyming ABABCC, each beginning ‘Word…’. In Britain it entered the A&M tradition with A&MCP (2000) retained in A&MRW (2013), both printing three stanzas only (1, 2, 4).
It is found in American and Canadian books of all denominations. It was included, for example, in H82, in the United Methodist UMH (1989), the Lutheran ELW and LSB (both 2006), in addition to Catholic books such as Worship (3rd Edition, 1986), Fourth Edition, 2011) and RitualSong (1996, 2016),...
