With wonder, Lord, we see your works. Brian Foley* (1919-2000).
This hymn, based on Psalm 8, is one of fourteen by Foley in New Catholic Hymnal (1971). Like Foley’s other hymns, it has an appealing simplicity, which here over-rides the rhythmical unexpectedness (unusual for Foley) of the final line, which is one syllable short.
The original verse 1 had a repeated word rather than rhyme:
With wonder, Lord, we see your works,
We see the beauty you have made,
This earth, the skies, all things that are
In beauty made.
