Wise men, they came to look for wisdom
Wise men, they came to look for wisdom. Christopher Martin Idle* (1938- ).
Written at Limehouse, east London, in 1981, while the author was preparing to preach on the Epiphany from Matthew 2 (also referred to are 1 Corinthians 1: 30-31 and 2 Corinthians 9: 15). A small revision was suggested by George Boorne Timms*, then Idle’s archdeacon.
It was written for the tune NEUMARK (BREMEN), to which it was set when it was first published in HFTC (1982). It has since become very popular, and is found in major collections in Britain such as Sing Glory (1999) and the Scottish CH4. In the USA it is found in The Worshiping Church (1990) and Worship and Rejoice (2001).
