William Rowan

ROWAN, William P. b. San Diego, California, 30 November 1951. Born into a military family, William Rowan moved frequently as a child.   He was raised in a pre-Vatican II household where access to hymnody was limited.   He found a love of hymnody while a student at Southern Illinois University, where he joined the choir at University Lutheran Church in Carbondale.   It was in this parish where Rowan discovered the witness of congregational song.   Rowan attended Southern Illinois University (BA, 1975) where he studied both piano performance and music history.   He later achieved two master’s degrees from Illinois in harpsichord performance (MM, 1977) and the University of Michigan in organ...
