William Romanis

ROMANIS, William. b. Westminster, London, 30 April 1824; d. Southsea, Hampshire, 13 November 1899. He was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (BA 1846, MA 1849). He became an Assistant Master in Classics, Cheltenham College (1846-56), also taking Holy Orders (deacon 1847, priest 1848). He was curate of Axminster (1856-58) and of St Mary the Virgin, Reading (1858-63), before becoming vicar of Wigston Magna, Leicester (1863-88). He was vicar of Twyford, Hampshire (1889-95) before retiring to Southsea. Romanis published Sermons Preached at St Mary’s, Reading (First Series 1862, Second Series 1864).
