William Romanis
ROMANIS, William. b. Westminster, London, 30 April 1824; d. Southsea, Hampshire, 13 November 1899. He was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (BA 1846, MA 1849). He became an Assistant Master in Classics, Cheltenham College (1846-56), also taking Holy Orders (deacon 1847, priest 1848). He was curate of Axminster (1856-58) and of St Mary the Virgin, Reading (1858-63), before becoming vicar of Wigston Magna, Leicester (1863-88). He was vicar of Twyford, Hampshire (1889-95) before retiring to Southsea.
Romanis published Sermons Preached at St Mary’s, Reading (First Series 1862, Second Series 1864). His hymns were published in Hymns written for Wigston Magna Church School (1878, Second...
