William Lawrence Wallace
WALLACE, William (Bill) Lawrence. b. Christchurch, New Zealand, 9 March 1933. He completed a Diploma of Education at the University of Otago, and a BA in philosophy at the University of Auckland. He was active in the Student Christian Movement and as a student experienced working class life. He entered the Methodist ministry in 1961 and spent his working life as a parish minister mainly in poorer urban areas until his retirement in 1995. For a time he chaired Contemporary Hymns (NZ; see ‘New Zealand hymnody’)*, and was hymn selector for a national television programme, ‘Praise Be’.
