William John Hall
HALL, William John. b. London, 31 December 1793; d. Tottenham, London, 16 December 1861. He was educated at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. After taking Holy Orders, he held several appointments in London. He was a Minor Canon of St Paul’s Cathedral, 1826; Priest in Ordinary of the Chapel Royal, St James’s, 1829; and vicar of Tottenham, 1851.
Many of his hymns were published in the Christian Remembrancer, of which he was editor and later proprietor, but his major contribution to hymnology was as editor (with the assistance of Edward Osler*) of Psalms and Hymns adapted to the Services of the Church of England (1836).
