William Hubert Vanstone
VANSTONE, William Hubert. b. Mossley, Manchester, 9 May 1923; d. Cirencester, Gloucestershire, 4 March 1999. He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford (BA, 1948) and St John’s College, Cambridge (BA, 1950), followed by training for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge, and further study at Union Theological Seminary, New York (STM 1950). He took Holy Orders (deacon 1950, priest 1951), serving as curate of St Thomas’s, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire (1950-55), curate-in-charge and then vicar of Kirkholt, Greater Manchester (1955-76), vicar of Hattersley, Cheshire (1977-78), and Canon Residentiary, Chester Cathedral (1978-90).
