William Henry Hammond Jervois
JERVOIS, William Henry Hammond. b. Alderney, Channel Islands, 10 September 1852; d. London, 5 August 1905. He was educated at Rugby School and Trinity College, Oxford (BA 1876, MA 1878). After training for ordination at Cuddesdon College (1876-78) he took Holy Orders (deacon 1878, priest 1879), and served as curate of St Giles, Reading (1878-83) and St Matthew’s, Westminster (1884-96). In 1896 he was appointed vicar of St Mary Magdalene, Munster Square, London.
Jervois was a member of the committee for EH, but died before the book was published. The preface records the gratitude of his surviving colleagues: ‘we dedicate to the memory of our friend the work in which he bore so large a share’...
