Who is this with garments dyed
Who is this with garments dyed. Edward Arthur Dayman* (1807-1890).
Written in 1866, this was published in the Sarum Hymnal (1868), edited by Dayman with Horatio Bolton Nelson* and James Russell Woodford* (JJ, p. 282). It was a paraphrase of Isaiah 63: 1-4, a prophetic chapter that also attracted others, including Arthur Cleveland Coxe* (see ‘Who is this with garments gory’*). It begins: ‘Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah?’ This quotation preceded the hymn.
It was written for the Monday before Easter. It had eight dramatic stanzas in 1868:
