Wherefore, O Father, we thy humble servants. William Henry Hammond Jervois* (1852-1905).
First published in EH, 1906 (Jervois was a member of the committee for this book, but died before it was published). It is a valuable short hymn for Holy Communion, based on part of the first prayer after Communion: ‘O Lord and heavenly Father, we thy humble servants entirely desire thy fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving;...’:
Wherefore, O Father, we thy humble servants Here bring before thee Christ thy well-belovèd, All-perfect Offering, Sacrifice immortal, Spotless Oblation.
