We believe in God the Father
We believe in God the Father. Timothy Dudley-Smith* (1926-2024).
Among several metrical versions of the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds which became available in the late 20th century, this paraphrase of the former was written at Ruan Minor, Cornwall, in August 1989 and is closer than most to its fourth-century Latin original. Its English-language model was the form endorsed by the International Consultation on English Texts as used in the Church of England’s Alternative Service Book 1980, its most obvious distinguishing feature being the opening ‘We believe…’ in contrast to the Book of Common Prayer text ‘I believe…’.
