W. Thomas Smith
SMITH, Walter Thomas. b. Gloster, Mississippi, 4 April 1934; d. Oaxaca, Mexico, 16 October 2023. The first Executive Director for The Hymn Society of America (now The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada*), Tom Smith attended Stetson University, DeLand, Florida (1952-55), Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York (BA 1960), Westphalia Church Music School, Hereford, Germany (1964-65), and Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio (MSM 1977). In lieu of a thesis he performed a lecture-recital on the organ works of Francisco Correa de Arauxo (1584-1654).
