Von Gott will ich nicht lassen. Ludwig Helmbold* (1532-1598). Printed on a broadsheet in 1563-64, and again in the Hundert Christenliche Haussgesang (Nürnberg, 1569). It was written during the plague at Erfurt. It exists in three forms, the first with an elaborate title and inscription and a preliminary poem, dedicating the hymn, ‘Ein Gottförchtiger und lieblicher Gesang’ to Regine, wife of Dr Pancratius Helbich, Rector of the University, and a close friend of the author: ‘In den Truck (= Druck, print) gegeben, zu ehren und wohlgefallen der tugentsamen Frawen Reginen Helbechin, Ehegemahl des Hochgelehrten Herrn Doctoris Pancratij Helbich…’.
