Valentin Ernst Löscher
LÖSCHER, Valentin Ernst. b. Sonderhausen, Thuringia, 29 December 1673; d. Dresden, 12 February 1749. He was educated at schools in Zwickau and Wittenberg, where his father had become General Superintendent and Professor of Theology at the University. He studied History at Wittenberg University, graduating in 1692, after which he taught for a year in the Philosophy Department. In 1694 he moved to the University of Jena, followed by a year of travel, returning to Wittenberg in 1698 at the bidding of his father. Prince Johann Georg of Weißenfels appointed him to the post of Pastor Primarius at Jüterbog in 1699, and in 1700 he became Doktor of Theology. In 1701 he founded a periodical, Altes...
