BARR, Tony. b. Sunderland, County Durham, 22 September 1945. He studied at Ushaw College, Durham, thereafter pursuing a career as liturgist and musician. Barr worked for the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (USPG) and for the St Thomas More Centre (1984-1989). During this time he began to promote the work of Oosterhuis* and Huijbers and related Dutch composers, who exerted a major influence over the composers of the St Thomas More Group*. He studied composition with Bill Tamblyn*.
