Three in One, and One in Three

Three in One, and One in Three. Gilbert Rorison* (1821-1869). First published in Rorison’s Hymns and anthems adjusted to the Church Services throughout the Christian year (1851), with four verses. It was then printed in Francis H. Murray*’s A Hymnal, for use in the English Church, with a slight alteration (‘Dimly here’ for Rorison’s Keatsian ‘Darkling here we worship Thee’, verse 4 line 2). In Murray’s text it was printed in the First Edition of A&M (1861), with a further alteration to verse 3 line 4, in which ‘Shed a vesper calm’ became ‘Shed a holy calm’.
