This paraphrase of the opening of 1 Corinthians 13 (verses 1-3) was part of an anthem by Hopson entitled The Gift of Love (Carol Stream: Hope Publishing Co., 1972). The same publisher included it as a separate hymn in Hymnal Supplement II (1984). It has been included in a number of mainstream hymnals including UMH, The Presbyterian Hymnal (1990), and the revised Trinity Hymnal (1990), and it has become widely known and admired.
