Thomas Toke Lynch
LYNCH, Thomas Toke. b. Dunmow, Essex, 5 July 1818; d. London, 9 May 1871. He was at school at Islington, London, and then studied for a short time at Highbury Independent College. He left, according to JJ, ‘partly on account of failing health, and partly because his spirit was too free to submit to the routine of College life’ (p. 705). He was pastor of Highgate Independent Church (1847-49) and of another small London congregation at Mortimer Street, which moved to Grafton Street, Fitzroy Square (1849-52). Ill health forced him to give up his ministry for a time, but he resumed it with his old congregation, first in Gower Street and then in Hampstead Road, until his death (1860-71). He...
