Thomas Blarer

BLARER (or Blaurer), Thomas. b. Konstanz, Bodensee, ca. 1499; d. Brunegg, Switzerland, 1567. He was the younger brother of Ambrosius Blarer*. He studied at Freiburg im Breisgau and later in Wittenberg under Luther* and Melanchthon*. He returned to Konstanz in 1523, becoming a member of the town council, and Burgomaster in 1536. Following the Interim of 1548, in which Konstanz became a part of the Holy Roman Empire (see Johannes Agricola*, Ambrosius Blarer*) he left for Switzerland, living first at Wetzikon near Zürich, and from 1562 onwards at Brunegg.
