They’ll know we are Christians by our love. Peter Scholtes* (1938-2009).
Written in 1966, this was first published in Hymnal for Young Christians (1966). It is sometimes known as ‘We are One in the Spirit’, from the first line, ‘We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord’. It is based on John 13: 35. It appeared in a recording, We are One in the Spirit (1968), produced by Scholtes with the choir of St Brendan’s Church, Chicago, together with local singers and instrumentalists.
