Theodor Kliefoth
KLIEFOTH, Theodor. b. Körchow, near Wittenberg, 18 January 1810; d. Schwerin, 26 January 1895. Educated at the Gymnasium at Schwerin, he studied theology at Berlin and Rostock, becoming a private tutor and later pastor at Ludwigslust (half-way between Wittenberg and Schwerin). In 1844 he became cathedral preacher at Schwerin, and in 1849 superintendent of the Lutheran churches in Mecklenburg. A staunch upholder of traditional Lutheranism, he published Die ursprüngliche Gottesdienstordnung (1847), and he produced Cantionale für die evangelisch-lutherischen Kirchen im Großherzogthum Mecklenburg-Schwerin (Schwerin, 1868) based on a 17th-century Lutheran book, Revidirte Kirchen-Ordnung (1650)...
