The radiant morn hath passed away. Godfrey Thring* (1823-1903).
A hymn on the unusual theme of afternoon, this was written in 1864 and first published in the author’s Hymns Congregational and Others (1866). It was included in the Appendix (1868) to the First Edition of A&M with the tune ST GABRIEL, written for it by Sir Frederick Gore Ouseley*; several other tunes are also used. It appears the 1871 supplement to Hymns for the Church Services, edited by H.W. Hutton, prebendary of Lincoln, with an additional sixth stanza.
