The Lord Jehovah reigns

The Lord Jehovah reigns. Isaac Watts* (1674-1748). First printed in the Second Edition of Hymns and Spiritual Songs (1709), Book II, ‘Compos’d on Divine Subjects’, this is the last of four hymns under the heading, ‘The Divine Perfections’. It was composed in what Watts called ‘Peculiar Metre’, a variant of the flowing 6.6.6.6.44.44. metre of the 148th psalm:  The Lord Jehovah reigns,His Throne is built on high;The Garments He assumesAre Light and Majesty;    His Glories shine    With Beams so bright    No mortal Eye    Can bear the Sight.
