CHERWIEN, Susan (née Palo). b. Ashtabula, Ohio, 4 May 1953. Susan Palo attended Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ashtabula, where she first encountered the music and poetry of the Christian tradition. She attended Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio (BM, 1975); and from 1976-1981 she studied at the Berliner Kirchenmusikschule, Spandau, and the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin, where she received the certification (Abschlussprüfung) in voice; and Mundelein College in Chicago, Illinois (MLS 1993) with an emphasis on spirituality, ritual and the arts.
