Steve James
JAMES, Steve (Stephen). b. Barnstaple, Devon, 9 February 1953. Educated at Wolverstone Hall School, Suffolk, and Middlesex Polytechnic. He worked in industry, joining the lay staff of St Helen's Church, Bishopsgate, in the City of London (1981-83), as Director of Music. He trained for the Anglican priesthood at Oak Hill College, north London, before ordination in 1986. He was a curate in Norwich (1986-89); associate rector in Vancouver, Canada (1989-93); and incumbent at St Andrew's Church, Bebington, Cheshire, 1993. By 2005 he had written 15 hymn tunes, six of which were settings of words by Christopher Idle*. His work appeared in Worship Songs, Ancient and Modern (1992) and Sing...
