Stanley J. McKay
McKAY, Stanley John. b. Fisher River First Nation Reserve, Lake Winnipeg, Manitoba, Cree, and elected Moderator of the United Church of Canada, 1992-94, six years after the UCC made its official apology to Canadian aboriginal peoples, at the 31st General Council in Sudbury, Ontario in August 1986. Educated at the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg, he began his career as a teacher. McKay was ordained in 1971. He served in First Nation pastorates at Norway House and at Fisher River for eleven years. He was called to lead development work among aboriginal congregations for the UCC.
