This hymn for Whitsunday was published without an author’s name in Psalms, Hymns & Anthems. Used in the Chapel of the Hospital for the Maintenance & Education of Exposed & Deserted Young Children (1774) (see ‘London hospitals and their hymns’*). There are minor textual disagreements about the wording of the first printing (see JJ, p. 1075 and Frost, 1962, p. 226). The text printed in JJ is as follows:
