Somerset Lowry
LOWRY, Somerset Thomas Corry. b. Dublin, 21 March 1855; d. Torquay, Devon, 29 January 1932. He was educated at Repton School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge (BA 1877, MA 1880). The son of an eminent lawyer, he was destined for the Bar, and admitted to the Inner Temple in 1876; but he decided to become a clergyman (deacon 1879, priest 1880). He was curate of Doncaster (1879-82), of St Margaret, Ilkley (1882-83), and of Holy Trinity, Bournemouth (1884-91). He became vicar of North Holmwood, Surrey (1891-1900), and vicar of St Augustine’s and St Alban’s, Bournemouth (1900-11); then rector of Wonston, Hampshire (1911-14); and vicar of St Bartholomew’s, Southsea (1914-19).
