Singers and Songs of the Liberal Faith (1875). This is the title of a substantial anthology of American Unitarian hymnody, edited by Alfred P. Putnam (Boston, 1875). Because Unitarianism was flourishing at the time, especially in the Eastern States of the USA, it contained much of permanent value by writers whose work has continued to feature in hymn books of all denominations, such as Samuel Johnson*, Samuel Longfellow*, Oliver Wendell Holmes*, Edmund Hamilton Sears*, and Sarah Elizabeth Miles*.
