Singen wir heut mit einem Mund. Michael Weisse* (ca. 1480-1534). This Easter hymn, ‘Sing we today with one voice’, was printed with the melody in Ein new Geseng buchlen (Jungbunzlau, Bohemia, 1531) with the heading ‘Triumphat’ (Wackernagel, Das Deutsche Kirchenlied III. 272-3). It had four 12-line stanzas, each with a refrain. It was re-written by Otto Riethmüller in Ein neues Lied (Berlin, 1932), but EG 104 has returned to some of Weisse’s diction (see Liederkunde zum EG, volume 2, p. 68). EG prints three verses and a refrain: the third verse is not found in Weisse’s text.
