Sing ye praises to the Father. Robert Balgarnie Young Scott* (1899-1987).
Written in 1964, this was one of four hymns by Scott published in The Hymn Book of the United Church of Canada and the Anglican Church of Canada (1971) (HB71). It is sung to ARFON (major) as adapted by Stanley L. Osborne* from ARFON, a Welsh, or possibly French, folk tune, originally composed in a minor key and used as a hymn tune in Edward Jones’s Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards (1794). About Scott’s hymn text, Osborne noted that ‘the simplicity of its diction and the scope of its thought make it a suitable hymn for almost any service of praise.’
