Simon Kara Marak

MARAK, Simon Kara. b. near Kamrup, Assam, India, 1877; d. Jorhat, Assam, India, 16 February 1975. Simon Marak, an ethic A·chik (Garo) man, was a schoolteacher, pastor, and missionary in Assam, a state in far northeastern India. He received his primary education from the Guwahati Government School with the financial assistance of the Kamrup Baptist Association (1907–09) and continued his study at the Government Training School (1909–12), supplementing his early years of teaching with work as a missionary preacher. His ministry took him to Jorhat in 1935, where he served the Jorhat Baptist Church as an assistant pastor (1935–53), remaining in Jorhat until he died in 1975.  His father died...
