Shirley Lewis Brown
BROWN, Shirley Lewis. b. St Louis, Missouri, 27 February 1925; d. Concord, Massachusetts, 9 April 2015. Organist, conductor, composer and arranger, Brown attended MacMurray College, Jacksonville, Illinois (BA in music, 1945), and Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York (MA in piano, 1947). She was a member of the music faculty of the University of Texas, Austin (1950-1954) and a volunteer teacher at St Anne’s School for Girls, Arlington, Massachusetts, in the 1970s and 1980s. Brown’s published works include hymns, choral music, and compositions for handbells.
